Nanavati Commission report trying to justify Modi’s propaganda : CPI-MNEW DELHI, Sept 26: Questioning the timing of the release of the Nanavati Commission report, the CPI(M) today asked the authorities to keep the “piecemeal” findings aside and wait for the directions of the Supreme Court. The party also alleged that the report was trying to “justify” the action-reaction theory propagated by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and the Sangh Parivar and that it was based “solely” on the investigating officer’s report which was rejected by the apex court. In a statement, party Politburo said that the report comes at a time when the country as a whole was bracing to meet the challenges posed by a series of terrorist attacks. “It (report) tends to reinforce communal stereotypes and prejudices rather than strengthening the need to pursue unbiasedly and impartially the anti-national criminals who are perpetrating such terrorist attacks. We are of the opinion that these findings must be kept aside and the country must await the directions of the apex court and the contingent investigations ordered,” it said.“Noting that the report has come after an “abnormally long delay and that too in a piecemeal fashion, raising many needless suspicions”, the CPI(M) said the timing of the release of the first part of the report comes on the eve of elections to some state assemblies and the second part is slated to be released on the eve of the coming general elections. The Nanavati Commission which probed the fire in the Sabarmati Express coach in Godhra has said that it was a “pre- planned conspiracy” and not an accident and gave a clean chit to Modi, his ministers and police in the post-Godhra riots that claimed over 1,000 lives in 2002.The CPI(M) said the findings of the Nanavati Commission report were in “complete contradiction” with the report submitted by former Supreme Court judge U C Banerjee, who said the fire in the coach S-6 of Sabarmati Express was accidental.“The findings of the Nanavati Commission also contradict the fact that in the ongoing criminal proceedings against Godhra accused no charge has so far been established by any concerned court. The findings also run in the face of the contradictory admissions made by various players in the Gujarat carnage as exposed by the sting operation of a private channel,” the party said. (PTI)

Andaman Chamber of Commerce roots for revival of tourism PORT BLAIR, Sept 26: Concerned over decrease in the number of tourists to the islands, the Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) today demanded aggressive marketing of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands through the print and electronic media. “The Administration must go for aggressive marketing of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by participating more in trade fairs and road shows,’’ ACCI president Mohd Jadwet told UNI. The ACCI also demanded creation of quality infrastructure and attractions for tourists in the far flung islands, including cable-cars and theme parks. The Andaman Chamber of Commerce has been facing criticism from various associations connected to the tourism industry and local media for its alleged opposition to LTC tourism. However, now the ACCI requested the local administration and the Centre to reintroduce the relaxed LTC scheme for the Andaman islands as was done in 2005 and has now been announced for the Northeastern region for at least another two years.Besides demanding for aggressive marketing and allowing LTC for Andaman, the Chamber also pressed the local administration and the Centre to allow international flights to Andaman. “Early announcement of scheduled international flights from Port Blair to the South East Asian countries will also attract more and more foreign tourists,” General Secretary of ACCI G Bhasker told mediapersons last evening while addressing a press conference at Port Blair to clarify that the ACCI was never against LTC tourism but only opposing its misuse. Vibrant frames, jewels dominate season New Delhi, Sept 26: It’s time to throw away your old glasses as vibrant and brightly coloured frames encrusted with precious and semiprecious stones and lenses fitted with crystals are predicted to be the predominant fashion in the coming season. The round lens, with long temples will soon be history and shades fitted with swarovski crystals, diamonds and rhinestones will dawn the new era of eye-wear in the country, say industry experts. “Keeping pace with the latest fashion trends we struck upon the idea to innovate in eyewear as well, so here’s the latest replacing the old,” says Paolo Ciarlariello, Managing Director, Luxottica Group a leading umbrella group for eyewear. The old ‘chashma’ as we call is now in an all new ‘avatar’ from lenses to temples molded in a new fashionable form with prices as low as Rs 2,000 to the high-end with Rs 40,000 also available. “The new range of eyewear is vibrant, retro and bejewelled with griddled lenses,” says Sudhashu Arora, Marketing Manager, Ray Ban Optics. “Indians have now a growing appetite for crystals and diamonds so why not experiment in the eyewear as well,” says Arora, “I am sure this new add on will drive in more and more consumers.” The new-age shades have dropped out black lenses and given way to griddled polarised lens which are light adaptive. “Gone are the days of photo chromatic lenses which had dark shades all-over, the all-new lenses are dark on top and lighten as you move downwards,” says Arora.“These have been designed to handle sun rays effectively. On the upper part usually more sun rays fall so it’s dark in colour while the lower portion adjusts with visibility,” points out Paolo. The temples of sunglasses is in revamp mode as well. The old straight one’s have died and wavy temples with encrusted diamonds are expected to be the new trend. The temples can either be a single or double wave in plastic or metal. “Vibrant and fast colours are also now catching up, only the sunglasses were dull so we thought to add some colour to it,” says Paolo. The frames now with added colours are now bigger than usual bringing in the typical retro type feeling. “For every reason we change clothes and dress-up accordingly so why not the shades,” says Arora who adds that the brand of eyewear will also be reflected in the sunglasses worn. “Increasingly people have become brand conscious, they now want to wear everything branded so why not the shades,” adds Paolo. “The shades in the coming year will be marked by a wide variety of shapes, over 350 styles to choose from, romantic and retro for women and face hugging for men,” says Arora. The forecast for eyewear was recently unveiled by the Luxottica group, the eye-wear umbrella company for brands like Ray Ban, Vogue, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana. “The Indian eye-wear market has grown manifold in recent years and has become synonymous with luxury and seeing this we have ventured out and are expanding,” says Paolo. “Sunglasses are now an extension of one’s personality, and soon we would change our glasses as frequently as we change our clothes and bags,” adds Arora.
