CM seeks security beef up in Kolkata

KOLKATA, Sept. 28: The chief minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, today asked the city police to intensify vigil during the festive season as a precautionary measure against any untoward incidents such as terrorist attacks.Addressing a gathering at an award ceremony organised by Kolkata Police at Sisir Mancha today, the chief minister said all the metropolitan cities in India are being targeted by the terrorist groups and that's the reason why policemen in the city should be more careful. He also said though city police always act promptly to prevent such incidents, they have to be more cautious now since overcrowded places of metropolitan cities are mostly being targeted by the terrorist groups. “Two big festivals like Id and Durga puja are near. Policemen need to ensure proper surveillance during this festive season to nip such problem in the bud,” he said. Mr Bhattacherjee said Kolkata does not have a large police force in comparison to other cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad. But in Kolkata Police, there are experienced policemen and they are carrying out their duties in a better way in terms of preventing crimes like terrorist attacks, he said. n SNS
