Christians wary of BJP rule

By Our Reporter
Shillong: Catholic Community of Shillong Archdiocese has expressed the apprehension that if BJP comes to power at the Centre, atrocities on minority Christians in various states especially those ruled by the saffron party would continue.

In a memorandum submitted to BJP leader LK Advani here on Monday, the Shillong Archdiocese said, "The BJP-BJD coalition government in Orissa, despite its repeated assurance of protecting the Christians, has been unable to control the violence against the minorities in the State."

The government "pleaded its inability" to control the mobs that vandalized church property and assailed religious personnel and innocent Christian people, the memorandum alleged.
The Shillong Archdiocese also wondered "if such a party takes over the reins of the country, will the Christian community ever feel secure and safe in their home land?"

It observed that the image of India, which has been known for upholding values like truth, tolerance and respect for various religions, has been badly tarnished due to the ongoing atrocities on Christian minorities.

The Shillong Archdiocese appealed to Mr Advani to provide justice to the victims of violence and ensure protection to the minority community. source: theshillongtimes
