BJP not to cancel Advani’s visit

NEW DELHI, Sept 25: In the wake of the e-mail threat from Indian Mujahideen to kill its senior leader LK Advani during his September 29 visit to Shillong, BJP today demanded a thorough probe into the matter and tightening of security at places he would go during his tour. The party, however, made it clear that it would not cancel the proposed visit of Advani to Asom, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

“It is true that an e-mail threat to Advanji has been received. We demand that the government should investigate into this and increase the security at places which Advanji is going to visit,” senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde told reporters here today. He added that the party would go ahead with Advani’s Northeast visit despite the threat from the Indian Mujahideen.
Munde said a few years ago 28 people had died at a venue in Tamil Nadu where Advaniji was to address a public rally. “If the Leader of Opposition cannot go to a rally due to security reasons then that is unfortunate,” he said.
“Due to the changing face of terrorism, there is a need for change in laws to fight the menace. All parties agree that there is a need for strict laws. Criminal Procedure Code is not equipped to fight organized crimes, and there is a need for TADA and POTA like laws,” Munde said.
Meanwhile, Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta held a meeting with the top officials of the Intelligence Bureau and asked all the north-eastern States sharing boundaries with neighbouring countries to seal the internal borders and tighten security.

Implement POTA: Advani
RAJKOT, Sept 25: Expressing concern over increase in terror activities in the country, senior BJP leader LK Advani demanded that the Centre should impose strict law to control organized crimes. Advani condemned recent bomb blasts that rocked various cities, while talking to mediapersons here last night. He said the Centre should not waste time in imposing POTA to control terrorism, and added that various steps taken by State and the Central governments have failed to tame growing terrorist activities.
