Milkmen’s strike hits Tinsukia

TINSUKIA, Sept 27: In a time when the Durga Puja just a few days ahead, more than 250 milk producers and suppliers of Tinsukia have stopped supplying milk and milk products to hotels and restaurants for few days in demand of hike in the prices of mewa and chana which have created tremendous problem in Tinsukia.
The Tinsukia Milk Producers’ and Suppliers’ Association informed that the hotel and restaurant owners are paying Rs 120 against per kg of chana and mewa of cow milk. On the other hand, Rs 110 are being paid against per kg chana and mewa of buffalo milk. The association had sent letters to the hotel and restaurant owners on August 29 with the appeal to increase the prices to Rs 150 per kg against chana and mewa prepared from cow milk and Rs 140 per kg against chana and mewa prepared from buffalo milk.
Having no response from the hotel and restaurant owners the milk suppliers of the town has stopped supplying milk. Though the Hotel and Restaurant Owners’ Association had assured the milkmen’s association of paying Rs 135 against per kg chana and mewa of cow milk and Rs 125 against per kg chana and mewa made of buffalo milk, but the milk suppliers had remained firmed in their stand.
Talking to The Sentinel Ananda Pareek, the owner of Hotel Rajasthan Bhojanalay told due to strike in the supply of the milk and milk products problem has been created in preparing sweet items whereas the Durga Puja is few days ahead. Series of agitation progs against BCPL started

DIBRUGARH, Sept 27: The All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) in association with other students’ and youth organizations like Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Sonowal Kachari Yuba Parishad, All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union and People’s Protection and Development Committee has announced a series of agitation programmes to protest against the ‘anti-local’ stand of Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL).
In a press statement, the president of ATASU Chao Rubul Buragohain cautioned the BCPL management that they would intensify their agitation if the latter failed to take appropriate steps for the welfare and employment of the unemployed youths and people living in and around the proposed project. It is very unfortunate that the BCPL management did not bother to pay any attention to their memoranda, which was submitted on an occasion, Borgohain added.
All the organizations had jointly called for a 12-hour Dibrugarh district bandh on September 27. Apart from that a three-hour sit-in-strike on September 29 has been scheduled and complete cessation of BCPL’s activities on September 30 is also demanded.

Seminar on career counseling by 65 Field Regiment organized

MANGALDAI, Sept 27: “The need of the hour is to get all sections of the society united in fighting against all odds and obstacles to make our country stronger and this is the right way to offer our gratitude by becoming a defender of the Nation” said Col Ajit Bora, Commanding Officer of the 65 Field Regiment operating in Darrang district while inaugurating a career counseling seminar at Mangaldai College on Friday. The seminar aiming to provide the detailed information and procedure to the students willing to join the armed service as officer or soldier was organized by the army with the active cooperation of the NCC wing of Mangaldai College.
‘The men in olive green’ of the 65 Field Regiment of Red Horns Division besides carrying out various praiseworthy community development services mostly in the remote and rural areas of the district under “Operation Sadbhavana”, while assisting the civil administration in fighting against the insurgency in the State under the unified command structure, has come forward to extend all cooperation towards the all round development of the young aspirant who are looking forward for a career in uniform.
Taking part in the seminar on career in armed forces as the resource person Maj Vishal Saxena of the 65 Field Regiment brought out all the details involving entry procedures and various enrollment schemes with the slide projector which have successfully opened the windows of the minds of younger generation in choosing their career in the most prestigious and patriotic service of the country which has been protecting our motherland from the external aggression as well as internal disturbances. In the seminar organized in the college for the first time, Maj Vishal Saxena laid special emphasis on women joining the armed forces. Strength of about 500 students including the cadets of NCC (both boys and girls) was amazed to learn the adventurous life style which armed forces offer. In the culmination the students were informed about a career cell formed in the Army Camp at Chapai in Darrang district to assist the students joining the armed forces.
Earlier, Capt Hari Mon Deka, Associate NCC Officer of Mangaldai College explained the object of the seminar and offered heartfelt felicitation to Col Ajit Bora, Lt Col Marut Shukla, Maj Vishal Saxena, Maj Amil Malik and Capt Satya Narayan with fulam bihuwan and japi in a traditional way. The cadets of NCC also enthralled the audience with their excellent presentation of cultural programmes. Mention may be made here that a large number of students present in the seminar while talking to The Sentinel expressed their utter satisfaction over the seminar as it has been able to impart them the proper information on career counseling. Manashi Dutta a senior NCC cadet has even determined to join the army as an officer when she told The Sentinel confidently with a bright smile.
Later, speaking before the media persons, Col Ajit Bora said that such seminar on career in armed forces would be organized in the other rural areas also so that both the talented boys and girls belonging to poor section could be motivated and guided to join the armed forces.. source: sentinel assam
Asomiya family looted in train

JORHAT, Sept 27: Despite the Railways touting how safe and secure the rail travel is, a family traveling by the Trivandrum Down Express was robbed of all their belongings at Chennai yesterday.
Prasanta Pratim Bhattacharyya, his wife Srabana and daughter, residents of Jorhat, had boarded the train at Guwahati on Wednesday morning to reach Trivandrum at 11.30 pm on Friday. When the train reached Chennai at 4.30 am, a co-passenger of AC two-tier compartment alighted and the Railway police suspect that he may have stolen all their luggage. The family was in sound sleep at the time. Waking up and finding their baggage missing, Bhatta-charyya reported the matter to the Railway Police Force at the next stoppage at Katpari. The co-passenger was reportedly from Dibrugarh. Bhattac-haryya who was on his way to a new posting at a tea garden, at a little distance from Trivandrum, was carrying all his goods with him. He lost a cash of Rs 20,000, jewelry, important documents like educational certificates, cheque books, insurance and other saving policies, passport and others along with all their clothes. source: sentinel assam
Governor reviews development status of BTC

KOKRAJHAR, Sept 27: For the first time, after assuming his office, the Asom Governor Shiv Charan Mathur visited Kokrajhar yesterday and reviewed the development status of BTC. He also held a meeting with the BTC officials and council heads of the departments and district administrations. He also called on the BTC chief Hagrama Mahilary.
Mathur visited the Bharatiya Adivashi Sevak Sangh, Kokrajhar and the new Secretariat and Assembly building of BTC.
In a press conference held at the circuit house here, Mathur said the situation of BTC area is improving. He admitted that killings, counter-killings and attacks were prevailing in the region but it is decreasing now significantly, he said adding that he is aware of the situation. Regarding the peace initiative to be taken with NDFB, the Governor said that the Government of India was not delaying the peace process but the autocratic style of NDFB on their charter of demands has made the process problematic. He also asserted the Government of India is sincere in this regard for which the ceasefire has been extended with the outfit and the outfit should follow the ground rules. source: sentinel assam
