SP sacrifices 246 animals for winning trust vote

.
We will drag SP MLA to court, threatens People for Animals Staff Reporter & UNIGUWAHATI, July 28: The Samajwadi Party sacrificed about 246 animals in the famous Kamakhya temple here since yesterday for the success the party and the Congress had achieved in the recent trust vote in Parliament, shocking the temple trust and provoking the animal rights groups of the State.SP MLA Kishore Samrite came from Bhopal and started sacrificing the animals as thanksgiving to Goddess Kamakhya for the victory in Parliament. The SP MLA will be in Guwahati till July 30.“Everyday he is sacrificing 121 goats and four buffaloes. So far in the last two days, 242 goats and four buffaloes have been sacrificed,” said the Kamakhya Debottar Trust, which runs the temple. The trust is also baffled as the value of the sacrificed animals is Rs 25 lakh. Samitre shot into fame early this year when he was allegedly offered Rs 25 lakh by the Congress to vote in favour of an independent MLA. He, however, remained nonchalant about the whole incident. He told mediapersons that it was his wish and he was only fulfilling it.“Another batch of 121 goats will be sacrificed tomorrow while the number of buffaloes will go up to 15,” said Samitre. The total number of animals to be sacrificed will tally with the exact number of votes the UPA got in the confidence motion.Kishore Samitre is the MLA from Lanji constituency in Madhya Pradesh and had been suspended from the party for sometime after the bribe scandal, but was taken back into the party fold in March.Today, the People for Animals as well as People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) swung into action and held demonstration in front of the DC office to stop sacrifice of animals. They also sent a fax message to Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav protesting the butchering of so many animals. “Animals cannot be sacrificed for the interest of political leaders. It is against animal rights,” People for Animal leader Sangita Goswami said. She added: “It’s strange that the UPA Government at the Centre that speaks of science and technology, nuclear energy etc still believes in sacrifice of animals. We will move the court against the SP MLA soon.”
