Minister assures Rs 2 cr to Hailakandi Civil Hospital


From Our Correspondent HAILAKANDI, July 14 – Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma unveiled the statue of eminent leader Santosh Kumar Roy in the premises of SK Roy Civil Hospital on July 10. The meeting held on the occasion was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Tapan Chandra Goswami. The Excise and Border Areas Development Minister, Gautam Roy and MLA Rahul Roy attended the meeting as chief guest and guest of honour respectively. The meeting was also addressed by the president of the District Congress-I Committee, Ashoke Duttagupta, Hilal Uddin Laskar among others. In his address, Dr. Sharma announced that Rs 2 crores will be sanctioned for the development of the civil hospital of Hailakandi. He also informed that the CT scan machine will be installed in the newly constructed Regional Diagnostic Centre (RDC) in the hospital premises and the cost of the machine is rupees 1.5 crores. He ordered the hospital authorities to start cataract operations from next month and also instructed the concerned department to purchase necessary equipments for starting operation. Dr Sharma appealed to the doctors, nurses and other staff of the Health Department to work sincerely for successful implementation of developmental schemes. Reiterating the contribution of late Santosh Kumar Roy towards development of Hailakandi, the Health Minister said that naming of Hailakandi Civil Hospital has rightly been done by the Government of Assam.Praising the activities of Minister Gautam Roy, he said that he has made remarkable change in Hailakandi during the last few years and urged the people to extend their helping hand for further development. Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Minister Gautam Roy narrated the various developmental activities of the district as well as Barak Valley and urged the people to co-operate for development of the district. He expressed hope that the Health Department will now get a facelift due to sanction of a lot of developmental schemes. He thanked the Health Minister for sanctioning of money for infrastructure development of the Civil Hospital.In his address, MLA Rahul Roy expressed satisfaction for the development of the health sector and urged the rural people to derive benefit from the schemes.At the out-set, the purpose of the meeting was explained by the District Media Expert of NRHM in Hailakandi, S Bhattacharjee. The Joint Director of Health Services, Dr. Samir Kumar Das handed over gifts to the guests in the meeting.Earlier, the Health Minister visited all the wards of the hospital and took stock of the situation. He also held discussion with the Joint Director and officials of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in Hailakandi district in the presence of Minister Gautam Roy and Deputy Commissioner Tapan Chandra Goswami.
