The sixth convocation of the National Institute of Technology

The sixth convocation of the National Institute of Technology, Silchar, was held on its scenic campus at Silcoorie near Silchar on June 2. Ashis Dutta, the director of National Institute for Plant Genome Research and former vice-chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, was the chief guest on the occasion. Around 141 B.Tech students and 13 M.Tech students were awarded their degrees during the convocation. T. Girish Kumar of the department of electronics and telecommunications department was awarded the institute’s much coveted B.Tech gold medal for securing the highest cumulative performance index among all the successful students drawn from all its five branches. At the function, the university announced that it would increase seats in its five branches for B.Tech and four branches in the M.Tech, which would take its student intake from 300 to 460.
