New chess academy in Guwahati


GUWAHATI, June 17 —

The Lions Club of Guwahati, Kamrup has set up a state-of-the-art chess training academy in the city.The academy aims to promote the game of chess among the masses in general and the youth of the region in particular.The academy hopes to provide a stable platform to the young talents of the region and assist them in making their mark in the national and international arena.The academy would have International Master and former Commonwealth champion Atanu Lahiri as the chief coach. Lahiri had won the Sri Lanka International Open Chess Championship at Kandy in February this year.The academy is situated at RG Barooah Road, opposite Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati. The academy would be open five days a week and classes would start from the second week of July. This was stated in a press release. Source: assam tribune
