Exam toppers felicitated

The All Assam Students Union (AASU) on Friday felicitated the position holders in the HSLC, High Madrassa and HS examinations and the young people of the State who have made it to the IAS this year at a function held here. The head of the institutions where these rank holders studied were also honoured by the student body.Inaugurating the day long function, renowned educationist Dr Jyoti Prasad Medhi stressed the need for a survey into the causes leading to the exodus of meritorious students from the State after the announcement of results of every examinations. Dr Medhi said that such an initiative would be an eye opener for the Government as well as the other authorities concerned to improve matters at home to retain the meritorious students.Lauding the efforts of the AASU for encouraging the student community through such felicitation programmes, Dr Medhi expressed the hope that the pool of young resources will bring glory for their State and the country. “In every society, it has been the meritorious and skilled young people who have propelled the country forward,” he said.Speaking on the occasion, former VC of Arunachal University Dr Annadacharan Bhagawati said that programmes as such were a welcoming change in the prevalent scenario of insecurity and unrest. Offering his blessings to the students, Dr Bhagawati advised them to inculcate reverence for knowledge and aim for the sky.Both the distinguished personalities termed it as a positive development the performance of the vernacular medium schools from where students have come out with flying colours.The functionaries of the AASU, adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya, president Sankar Prasad Rai and general secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi said that education would be the priority of the student body and it would initiate the steps necessary to prepare the student community to face the emerging challenges.
