Daniel parents blame Ripun

Sensation still prevails here following the arrest of the State Education Minister and Congress leader of Sonitpur district Ripun Bora in New Delhi on June 3 last while trying to offer bribe to an officer of the CBI who is also the investigating officer relating to the murder of Adivashi leader of Gohpur, Daniel Topno at Satrang in September, 2000. Talking to this correspondent today the parents of late Daniel Topno – Andrius Topno and Selwanty Topno disclosed that Ripun Bora was the main culprit and he was the mastermind behind the murder and he had engaged criminals to carry out the heinous act.They further alleged that Ripun Bora faced many problems in his political life due to Daniel’s growing popularity in the area.Terming the arrest of the minister as fully justified, Topno said that had he not been guilty CBI wouldn’t have arrested him. They further added that, there is still justice left in the society for which the culprits involved in Daniel’s murder would be arrested.They further disclosed that, they had been threatened by Ripun Bora many a time to withdraw the case. They said that, they wanted a CBI inquiry into the incident and wanted the guilty to be punished.The relatives of late Daniel Topno said that All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) has been demanding a CBI inquiry and has declared September 27 as a memorable day for the Adivashi people.Bandh total: The 12-hour Assam Bandh called by AASAA affected normal life today in Sonitpur. No untoward incident was reported. During the bandh, no vehicles were seen plying. Schools, colleges, bank and other business establishments remained closed. Source: assam tribune
