CID makes headway in admission scam

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has short-listed names of around 15 more suspects, including some MBBS students, who took active part in the anomalies in the common entrance test-2006 for medical colleges. However, the CID sources revealed that only a few of the suspects are presently staying in the State. “From the recent investigation, we have unearthed that there were three well-oiled rackets, which were influencing the medical entrance exams,” the sources stated.“If required, the department would seek the help of our counterparts in other States, especially the Bihar Police, where we believe some of the prime accused of the anomalies are taking refuge,” the sources stated, adding that some of the students who managed to get admission, have even quit their courses mid-way.This comes after the CID sleuths arrested three persons of a family – Atikul Hussain, a fourth semester student of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, his elder sister Afrida Hussain, and his father Afzal Hussain, a retired STATFED officer on June 2 — in connection with the anomalies. Atikul’s sister had arranged for one Kundan Shah to appear for the latter in the entrance test. Shah is now absconding“Each one of them has confessed their crime during our questioning and based on some fresh inputs, we would catch a few others very soon,” a senior CID official told this correspondent.“We have almost zeroed in on most of the accused and the case would be brought to its logical conclusion once the short-listed names are booked,” the official pointed out.
