Assamese language education centre opened at Bokakhat

From Our Correspondent BOKAKHAT, June 28 – An ‘Asomiya Bhasa Siksha kendra’, the fifth of its kind established by Asam Sahitya Sabha, was inaugurated at Puwoti Sahitya Sabha Bhawan, Bokakhat by its secretary Brajen Kotoky on June 20. The centre will endeavour to impart education of Assamese language particularly to the non-Assamese communities with an aim of propagating the language.The centre will be managed by a seven-member management committee headed by Thaneswar Hazarika, retired principal of IDSG College, Bokakhat who is also a veteran journalist and an author of several books.The Sabha branch also celebrated the 39th death anniversary of Bishnu Prasad Rabha, the doyen of Assamese art and culture with day-long programme. Manoranjan Sen, president of the Sabha branch hoisted the flag on that day while Tileswar Boruah performed the ‘smriti-tarpan’.The open meet was presided over by Parashu Tamuly, president of the Golaghat Zila Sahitya Sabha.Speeches on Rabha’s life and works were delivered by Sailen Tamuly, Purnakanta Saikia, Pabitra Borbora and Munin Bora.Earlier, the inaugural song was presented by a group of singers headed by Atul Bezboruah, Lecturer in Commerce of IDSG College, Bokakhat. source: assam tribune
